Nice work Alex, this is a big improvement compositionally. The narrative is reading well, but the props have some issues. The beakers feel way out of scale, and i cant tell what theyre sitting on. It looks like theres either skycrapers or some sort of machines in the background, im not sure which. The human figure also is having some issues, he doesnt look to convincing. From the looks of it you have to start utilizing reference a bit more.
Yeah the beakers are sitting on the table you suggested to move, but it seems like it's getting lost into the monster's legs on darker screens. but I agree they're probably a bit out of scale. The machines were not thought out in the slightest and I yeah the last ditch attempt to add interest to them just made them read as scyscrapers...
As for reference I agree I have a nasty habit of gathering reference and then not really referring back to it again afterwards... At least when it comes to 2D. I think the reference studies you suggested will be a great way to try and train myself to actually use the ref I find.
